The latest version of Mambo Open Source comes with a handy little installer script. This will make it easy for every upcoming webmaster to use MOS for his site. In my first preview of MOS 4.5 I will guide you through the installation process.

Step 1 - Database configuration

After you started the installation script, it ask's for the database configuration. New user have to just enter the mysql server, username, password and the database name. Webmasters upgrading from older versions can check the coresponding button. It is also possible to wipe an existing site by clicking the 'drop' button.

Step 2 - Enter sitename

The next essential information needed is the name of your new site. Just enter it on the second page of the install script.

Step 3 - Path and admin mail

To run smooth MOS needs to know where it is installed. Mambo 4.5 will check this by itself and you will find the correct values in the third page. Please note I cleared the values in this screenshot, to not reveal the hidden developer site. Just check the values and finally enter your e-mail adress.

Step 4 - Installation finished

That's it. Now MOS 4.5 is installed on your website. Please remember the admin password before proceding to either your new site or the admin interface. Older user may notice, that the admin password is generated during the install process. This is definitely more secure than the older solution.

Warning

After you have installed MOS 4.5 with the new install script, ftp to your webspace and delete the install script. Otherwise anybody could easily kick your whole site and use your webspace...
