When did you get in contact with Mambo? It is quite a story but ill keep it short. 3-4 years ago i wanted to start working on a site and learning web designing. I choose php over all other languages because of how stable and friendly the open source community was. I then was on the search for a great Open Source Content Management System ...so that i can design/create and work on sites with ease and possible put back my energies into the project. It took me a long time and i finally came across Mambo in 2002 and feel in love. I then got extremely envolved with the project and now I'm a highly active Mamber in the community and still continue to help individuals deploy there site and get it up and running. What is your current role in the Mambo community? My current role in the Mambo community is to help out in the forums and moderate the installation forums. I also help individuals with installation problems and troubleshoot them for those individuals. I currently do small components / modules.
Do you have any Mambo projects beside the above? I do alot of forum reading/responding. I am currently working on a large project that will be publicly announced later during the year. What are you doing, when you are not working for Mambo? Programming custom scripts / writting articles, stories, poems / working on building up a local Computer business / performing Magic / spending quality time with my significant other. About Mambo
What is Mambo's biggest advantage against other CMS? Like I mentioned during the Linux World Expo the 2 major differances between Mambo and other Content Management Systems is the Administration Panel and the Templating System. With Mambo you can teach a 7 year old or a 70 year old person to run Mambo and administer the web site. It is that easy. Mambo has a easy to use admin menu system. The next major differance is the templating system. With Mambo you can easily create template with out feeling restricted to a structured look. For instance when you go to a site and it is a phpWebSite or a phpNuke site you site there and your like...hey that is a phpWebSite or a phpNuke site...etc. With Mambo you can create your own feel, design, flow, and design it to your hearts content. And the biggest disadvantage? I find the biggest disadvantage is the menu system. As it is difficult to create more then one sublevel for the Main Menu. And the other disadvantage is that some people dont understand the GNU/GPL licensing only applies to Mambo and not add-on components. It needs to be made very clear that Mambo add-ons dont have to be GNU/GPL licensed as they can be commercial as well. Where do you see Mambo in the future? I see Mambo future having a very bright future. As more and more people begin to get involved there are noticable improvements on a daily basis. Mambo is going towards being fully CSS compatible and XHTML compatible which is looking to have a very bright future. Your final word to the community? If you want to make Mambo a more successfull Content Management System...then tell your friends, family, and show them the Power of Simplicity. Mambo doesnt just start and end with the developers / forum moderators / documentors / it ends up in your hands and it is up to you to promote and help contribute to such a great project. |
