New project started Print E-mail
Written by Arthur Konze
Monday, 29 August 2011

This month I started a new project, the OutdoorPodcast. I wanted to try out to publish an audio podcast on iTunes. I also planed to release the audio content on a website using HTML5 media tags for modern browsers and classic flash integration for older plattforms. This way the content of the website is fully accessable through popular Apple devices such as the iPhone or the iPad. I realised the website using the latest Wordpress and the Podpress extension. If you want to take a look at the website, you can find it over at:

www.outdoorpodcast.de

A second project ii started is about short wave listening and ham radio. It is also basend on Wordpress and equipped with JW Player. The design is completely responsive and the whole website works well on all devices. You can find it over here:

Mamboportal.com isn't maintained anymore. Although many articles are outdated, I decided to keep the website online as a resource for those, who still use older versions of Mambo and Joomla. Personally I have moved on and started some other websites. It would be nice to see one or the other of you at my new websites:

Odoo.tv
My actual main project. It is a very sucessfull german internet tv station for outdoor products. Actually it is visited by more than 100.000 viewers every month. You can find hundreds of movies about outdoor gear, knives, technical devices such as gps or outdoor watches and about survival.

Odoo.tv Forum
This is where you can find me online most of the time. It's the forum for Odoo.tv and it has a very active community. There are a lot of discussions about outdoor gear, knives and survival. Furthermore we have an own Teamspeak Server for live talks, we create podcasts, blogs and a lot image gallerys.

Konze Webdesign
My company website. Some informations about me and what I do. Don't bother visiting, hasn't been updated in ages. :-)

Knifemovies.com
My new project. From time to time I create some knife movies in english and publish them on this website. I took my first steps in wordpress with this site.

Joomble.com weblinks directory started Print E-mail
Written by Arthur Konze
Thursday, 22 September 2005

Joomble! logoToday we started Joomble.com, a weblinks directory for pages related to Joomla! and websites based on it. Similar to what Mamble.com was for Mambo, we decided to build up a directory for the uprising Joomla! CMS. At the moment more than 30 different categories are available for user submitted links. Besides the common features like user voting or user reviews, we addded a feature, which displays the Google pagerank of a weblink.

We are now waiting for users submitting their Joomla! websites to the directory and help us all to get a valueable link resource for the community. To get listed a websites needs to be either build up with Joomla! or hast to contain informations about the CMS. The new website can be found here:

Userdatabase cleared - Mambo unable to handle it Print E-mail
Written by Arthur Konze
Monday, 11 July 2005

As you might know Mamboportal.com is one of the larger Mambo based community websites. During the last month more and more users registered at our website. Since today we had more than 100,000 registered users. Although we are very proud of the many users, this also made the website nearly impossible to administrate anymore.

Why? Mambo's user management is very simple and has not changed much since the early days. For example Mambo uses a drop down menu in the content items to select the creator of an article. While this works fine for websites, which do not have many registered users, it also is a pain when you have many users. I gues you can imagine how long it takes to load a page with a 100,000 entrys drop down menu.

Another even larger problem is the user manager. With many entrys Mambo produces a tremendous load on the mysql server. This lead to regular crashes of the whole mysql server and downtimes of Mamboportal.com. I already talked about this problems to Andrew Eddie last year and also submited it to the Bug Tracker about a month ago as we started to build up the new team for Mamboportal.com (Infos at http://mamboforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=6590&group_id=5&atid=101). Sadly the bug isnt even assigned to anyone at the moment.

However as I want to move forward with Mamboportal.com and the new team I decided to clear the whole userdatabase today. Every of the 100,000 registered users will be informed about that via Email the next days.

Mamboportal needs volunteers. After Mamboportal.com has passed some heavy waters in the last month, I am very glad that it is still up and running. I am currently restructuring the website a little bit to make it operational again. As a part of this reorganisation I will set in 2-3 coadmins this week. With them we would like to build up a team of authors, which write news and articles for Mamboportal.com.

We are currently looking for people who would like to join into this team. I have setup a new forum over at Mambers.com for volunteers. So if you want to join in the Mamboportal.com Team, please leave us a small note in that forum. You can find it over here:

Back from Hospital Print E-mail
Written by Arthur Konze
Monday, 28 February 2005

Many people may have wondered, where I had been the last two weeks. I could not maintain the websites and also could not answer any emails as I had to stay in a hospital. After working the last years very hard, daily in my regular job and on Mambo things at night, my body pulled the brakes two weeks ago. I do not want to go in detail right now, but I want to inform you, that I am back. I still have to take things easy for the next weeks, so please do not await any wonders this week.

As I have more than unread 1.500 unread emails, it would be great if you do not send any mails at the moment. Please contact me only, if you have any very, very urgent issue. I will contact my staff members this week and we will discuss the future of Mamboportal and Mambers. I definitely will and have to expand the team, so any volunteers are welcomed. Please discuss this on Mambers.com at the moment. Thanks for your understanding.

Back from a short break Print E-mail
Written by Arthur Konze
Wednesday, 09 February 2005

Many people wondered, where I was the last few days. I did get dozens of emails, asking if I got ill or something. No, I am not. To be honest I took a short break from my Mambo related websites. This had two reasons. As you might know, I do live near Cologne in Germany. The city of Cologne is the center of the german carnival, which startet on Thursday and ended today. This was where I spend most of my spare time and even celebrated my birthday, which was on friday.

The rest of the time I spend working on a new Mambo based website. A new project of Konze Webdesign is Wowportal.de. The websites features news and articles in german about the popular Blizzard game World of Warcraft. We set the page up on a separate server and it will be maintained by a team of 4 players.

This small break was very refreshing and my first 'holiday' for about 2 years now. Thanks for your understanding.

Massive email problem and hoster change Print E-mail
Written by Arthur Konze
Wednesday, 05 January 2005

Since about 10 days I discovered email problems with the webserver. I did not really thought about it due to the christmas holidays, but with the start of MamboShop.com suddenly many customers complained about not getting their products send. I therefore talked with my webhoster 1&1 yesterday and today. They checked it and could not find any problems, although in fact all of my websites (which use Mambo, vBulletin, X-Cart, phpMyFAQ, ...) are unable to send out emails through the php mail() function. 1&1 says, it must have something to do with the script settings and declines any connection with the update to php 4.3.10 two weeks ago.

As it seems that 1&1 is not interested to solve the problem I have no other chance as to change the hoster this month. I hereby apologize for the troubles you might had with my websites and also apologize for the problems which will come due to the sudden hoster change. I will try to find a new hoster this week and start the move of the first domains next week. Let me clearly state that I from now on can not recommend 1&1 or any other companies of United-Internet.com anymore!

The Mambers.com logoA new year, a new topic of the week at Mambers.com. This week I pick up the ball from our moderator eyezberg and would like talk about the list of addons for Mambo. Currently there are hundreds of components and modules available, both free and commercial. So everybody should be able to do everything he likes with Mambo.

But is this true? Does every component needed already has been developed? If yes, are you satisfied with the currently available solutions? And if not, what component or modules do you badly miss? I am really looking forward to your answers over at Mambers.com:
